Germaine Dulac Mural (Nantes)
For Nantes
This mural, created in collaboration with my dear friends Émilie Lapeyre (artist and illustrator), Nathalie Papeil (artist and graphic designer) and Patrice Lumeau (poet) was commissioned by the City of Nantes as a tribute to pioneering filmmaker Germaine Dulac.
Painted near a local school on the allée that bears her name, it was the joyful outcome of a community project developed with children and residents, following a series of creative workshops around the theme of inspiring women.
At the center stands Germaine Dulac: strong, grounded. Her bold silhouette and suit reference her non-conformist spirit and historical portraits.
Around her bloom abstract, floral faces representing generations of women she continues to inspire. We also included dancing figures, echoing the theme of movement so present in her experimental short films.
The mural also includes a short poem by Patrice Lumeau, inviting viewers to connect with it on a more emotional and personal level.
The mural was painted in one week, with the amazing technical support of the association Plus de Couleurs. Below are a few pics of the process.
